Passport Reissue

Currently, China has one embassy and five consulates general in the United States, responsible for consular services within their respective jurisdictions. Applicants should submit their application to the visa office in their jurisdiction.

New passports are produced uniformly by the certificate production center. Under normal circumstances, the production time is about one month from the time the applicant arrives at the passport embassy to apply. In order to facilitate applicants to obtain new passports in a timely manner, the Visa Office of the Embassy in the United States will promptly announce the passport collection slip number that has been produced in less than one month in the "New Passport Collection Notification". Please contact the consulate for specific inquiries.

If the number of the collection ticket you hold has not been announced, please continue to pay attention to the update of the "New Passport Collection Notice" or directly pick up the passport according to the pickup date indicated on the collection ticket. There is no need to come to the consulate in advance to collect it. Or call, email, or fax for consultation.

For applicants who hold a collection form marked with "ToCall", if the passport has been prepared, it will also be announced in the "New Passport Collection Notification", and the embassy will no longer notify the applicant by phone.

 

Required materials

1. Fill out one copy of the "People's Republic of China Passport/Travel Permit/Return Certificate Application Form" truthfully and completely

2. 2 recent (within six months) front-facing color ID photos (glossy photo paper) without hats. The photo size is 48mmx48mm, the width of the head is 21mm-24mm, the length is 28mm-33mm, and the background is white

3. A copy of the original passport or other materials proving the applicant’s Chinese nationality and identity (such as household registration book, identity card certificate or birth notarization, etc.) copy (if any)

4. Original and copy (if any) of the residence permit in Mercure or other countries

5. Passport lost, Written report of theft or damage. Application method

Applicants should go to the embassy or consulate in person according to their place of residence in the United States and according to the consular districts of the Chinese Embassy and Consulate General in the United States. You cannot apply by mail or entrust others to handle it.

Reissue time

1. When reissuing a passport, the identity of the applicant needs to be verified and confirmed by the relevant domestic authorities, so the reissue time cannot be determined.

2. The embassy or consulate will issue automatic inquiry instructions, or call you to notify you of the time for collecting the certificate after the certificate is processed.

Obtaining evidence and charging fees

1. On the date indicated on the evidence collection form, or after receiving a phone call, or after self-inquiry that the passport has been issued, the applicant shall, by himself or by entrusting another person, present the certificate. Pay the original fee and collect the certificate.

2. Ordinary passport reissue fee is USD 105.

Only cash checks (MoneyOrder, Cashier'sCheck) and credit cards (Mastercard, VisaCard) are accepted. Cash and personal checks are not accepted. Please make checks payable to: ChineseConsulateGeneral.

3. If the passport is not obtained after one year, the certificate will be invalidated and destroyed, which may affect the applicant's next application for a certificate.

Notes

The original passport will be declared invalid and cannot be used anymore even if it is recovered. It should be sent to the embassy or consulate for cancellation as soon as possible. If you enter the country with a passport that has been declared invalid, you may be refused entry or be fined.
