No problem. The newly received credit card can be used normally if it is activated before the credit card is valid. Most credit cards issued by major banks are valid for 3-5 years. Before the credit card expires, the bank will notify you via SMS. Notify cardholders in advance and the new card will be sent directly by mail. After a credit card expires, the old card becomes invalid. However, some banks may still charge an annual fee if the new card is not activated. Therefore, if the cardholder does not intend to continue using it, the cardholder should submit a cancellation application to the bank in a timely manner.
Preparations before canceling a credit card:
1. Find out the status of your credit card. First, call the bank’s customer service hotline to find out the status of your credit card. Before you prepare to cancel your credit card, you should call the card-issuing bank to see if there are any unsettled accounts on your card. Failure to repay the spent money will damage your personal credit and make it difficult to apply for loans in the future.
2. Clear the credit card balance. As long as the credit card has a balance, whether positive or negative, it cannot be canceled normally. The cardholder needs to clear the credit card balance. If there is a balance in the card, the balance must be paid off in time; if there is excess deposit, such as an extra balance of dozens of yuan, the cardholder can go directly to the supermarket to wipe off the balance, so that Avoid being charged a fee for withdrawing or transferring money. You can also transfer the balance in the card to a debit card in the name of a colleague. Of course, if the amount is relatively small, you can call the card-issuing bank to "give up the balance on the card."
3. Credit card points transfer and credit card cancellation are divided into card cancellation and account cancellation. Card cancellation means canceling a credit card in the cardholder's name, while account cancellation means canceling the cardholder's entire bank account. Canceling a single card does not necessarily mean canceling the account. If a person holds multiple credit cards from the same bank, the other cards can still be retained. However, once the entire account is canceled, it means that all cards under the cardholder's name will be cancelled.
If the entire account is canceled, the cardholder’s points will be cleared. Only single card cancellation can keep the points. After the credit card is canceled, the points in the card can be transferred to other credit cards of the same bank, provided that the card type and point type of the two cards are consistent. If they are inconsistent, they cannot be accumulated. For example, points from a standard card cannot be transferred to a co-branded credit card that “automatically converts points into miles.”
Credit card cancellation process:
1. Call the card-issuing bank to cancel the credit card. After receiving the call, the bank will accept the user's application for canceling the credit card and deduct all card balances from the account. After charging the annual fee, the account balance is zero or the customer explicitly gives up the remaining deposit in the account.
2. Go to the bank counter to formally cancel the credit card. You must bring your ID card, application form, and credit card to be canceled. Go to the counter to collect the card and wait a month before canceling the transaction. The first step to cancel is to collect the card. After collecting the card, you will do the corresponding card cancellation procedures one month later. However, you can also directly make an appointment to cancel the account on the day of canceling the card. In this way, you don’t have to go to the branch to apply for it after a month. The balance on the card will be transferred directly to the card scheduled for account cancellation after one month.
