Beginner webmaster, which one is better, cloud server or VPS?

Novice webmasters choose servers:

Webmaster Cloud Server

After moving several domestic websites to Webmaster Cloud under Webmaster.com, it is very difficult After the Hong Kong node was launched, some garbage dumps were transferred to it, and the number of visits increased significantly. It seems that stability is still very important, and the price is also the lowest in the industry! The American one has not been used yet. It is said that it has the same structure as the domestic deployment and should be good. Highly recommend Webmaster Cloud, yun.admin5.com.

Godaddy

I bought .Net space two years ago, the cheapest kind, and also bought a domain name from Godaddy. In order to register, it can be said that I went through all the online introductions. After being dazzled, I finally registered the website and domain name. Domestic access is relatively slow, and I often encounter situations where the website cannot be opened.

Dreamhost

Later I couldn’t stand Godaddy anymore. I read various forums that Dreamhost was reliable, so I impulsively bought its space. It is mainly used for blogging. The normal time is fine, the speed is barely acceptable, so I tolerate it because the price is relatively cheap.

However, Dreamhost will have convulsions from time to time. The website is always unavailable for two days every month or two, and during the peak traffic period when traveling abroad at night, it is impossible to connect at all.

Linode

Linode’s price is considered high in the VPS world. But the speed is great, and the CPU is also very powerful. After all, you get what you pay for. The current Linode price for 1G of memory and 8 virtual CPUs is US$20 per month, which is about 120 yuan. My current website is on it.

Ramhost

Although Linode is good, it is expensive. Fortunately, I didn't buy it for a whole year (the cost of buying it for a year is calculated as 10 months), but I bought it month by month. So I later canceled Linode’s service and went to Ramhost, the VPS known as the most cost-effective.

How can I say it, it is indeed the most cost-effective. The VPS with 1.5G memory is probably the cheapest on the Internet, and this one-person website is not oversold. At first, I thought I had found a treasure, but I found that the computer room accessing the United States from China was really unstable. Fast during the day, slow at night. After a few months of hard work, he left in despair.

Cloud server

The industry name of cloud server is actually called computing unit. The so-called computing unit means that this server can only be regarded as a brain, which is equivalent to the CPU of an ordinary computer, and the resources inside are limited. If you want to get better performance, the first solution is to upgrade the cloud server, and the second is to deploy other software that consumes computing unit resources on the corresponding cloud service. For example, there are dedicated cloud database services for databases, and dedicated file storage services for static web pages and images.

And cloud servers are not cheap, on the contrary, they are more expensive than ordinary VPS. Why? Because it is relatively easy to expand. Cloud servers are a good choice when your website becomes large and has high income.

At present, there are many cloud service providers in China. You can try them. Alibaba Cloud should be considered the largest. But I haven’t tried it yet because my website is already on Linode and I don’t want to bother with it yet.

The most famous foreign cloud service is AWS, which is Amazon. The cheapest one on Amazon, I can only say that you can open a credit card and try it out for one year, and it will deduct only $1. The hard disk IO is very poor, the CPU is also very poor, even a static plug-in in WordPress can freeze. But the experience... As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Amazon also has many high-end customers, so we won’t go into details here. It’s more practical to build our own website.

Summary

Having said so much, many friends will say, you have to talk about the key points.

Specifically, if your website is positioned for foreign visitors and does not really need a powerful server, then Godaddy and Dreamhost can be considered, although it is really painful to manage them.

If your website is positioned for foreign visitors, but you are very concerned about access speed and the PV of the website is not small, then you should consider Linode.

If your website is targeted at foreign visitors, your technical skills are pretty good, and you want to save some money, then choose Ramhost. It should be noted that Ramhost's VPS is available for grabs. If you don't grab it after it is released, you usually have to wait two to three weeks.

If your website wants to serve domestic visitors, but you don’t want to register for the time being, and you are concerned about access speed, you can consider Linode.

If your website wants to be oriented to domestic visitors and you don’t want to register, but you think I want to make a high-end website, and I am also rich and handsome, you can choose AWS. After all, many domestic websites are placed on Amazon's cloud service. But in this case, you have to buy a domestic CDN service. But since you are rich and handsome, I know you won't care about this little money.

Of course, if the above is not enough, you can also consider domestic cloud service providers or buy a VPS in Hong Kong. But I haven’t tried any of these, so I won’t talk about it.

Finally, if your website is already very large, I still recommend that you use cloud services. It’s not about anything, it’s about peace of mind and the convenience of expanding as much as you want and not wanting to.

I hope my experience can help everyone. After struggling so much, I discovered that stability is the most important thing. Finally, I hope everyone can buy the space they want,
