Xiaocai netizen Ms. Wang applied for a credit card from a certain bank and received a card via express delivery soon after. During the process of activating the credit card, he was defrauded of more than 20,000 yuan multiple times. After checking with the bank, I found out that I received a fake credit card.

It is difficult to tell the authenticity of credit cards

Ms. Wang said that after checking the process of applying for a credit card at a bank online, she entered her name and phone number online and applied for an overdraft line. 50,000 yuan credit card. A few days later, a man contacted her using a mobile phone number in Beijing, claiming to be a staff member of a credit card guarantee company, and asked her to provide her salary statement for credit card processing. Ms. Wang told the other party that she was out of town and could not provide salary for the time being.

The man said that he could help Ms. Wang apply for a credit card in someone else's name, but he would have to pay a fee of 300 yuan. Ms. Wang was in a hurry to apply for the card and agreed to pay 300 yuan. The other party sent Ms. Wang a bank account number, and she transferred 300 yuan to it.

A few days later, Ms. Wang received a courier containing a bank credit card. Ms. Wang took out the credit card and looked at it. It had her name on it, as well as the UnionPay logo and the logo of the issuing bank. Along with the credit card, there is also an instruction manual.

Ms. Wang said that the instructions printed with credit card type, card number, name, credit limit, cash withdrawal limit and other information look very realistic.

Activate the card and "spend" more than 20,000 yuan

After receiving the card, Ms. Wang wanted to activate the credit card. She had to follow the instructions in the instructions and contact the guarantee company to activate it.

Ms. Wang contacted the so-called "Manager Zhang" according to the sender's phone number on the express delivery. Zhang said that he helped Ms. Wang apply for a credit card with a limit of 50,000 yuan. To activate the card, she must first pay a handling fee for the overdraft amount of 2. After all, the handling fee Ms. Wang has to pay is 1,000 yuan.

Ms. Wang transferred the money to the account provided by the other party through Alipay. After transferring the money, Ms. Wang contacted "Manager Zhang", who said that she had received it.

Soon, another mobile phone number contacted Ms. Wang. The man who called said that he was responsible for activating the credit card, and he needed Ms. Wang to transfer 5,000 yuan first, to prove that he had the financial ability to repay the loan, and to increase the credit card overdraft limit to 55,000 yuan.

In order to eliminate Ms. Wang’s worries, the other party said that after the money was transferred, Shi Ke could scan the QR code on the instruction manual to check whether the overdraft limit had been increased.

In order to activate the credit card, Ms. Wang transferred 5,000 yuan. Afterwards, Ms. Wang scanned the QR code on the instruction manual and found that the overdraft limit was indeed increased to 55,000 yuan.

The other party called but changed his story and said that because the amount of 5,000 yuan was low and the activation pass rate was not high enough, he asked Ms. Wang to transfer another 15,000 yuan.

What I received was a fake card

After transferring the money, Ms. Wang urged the other party to activate the credit card quickly. The other party delayed for various reasons and urged Ms. Wang to send another 10,000 yuan. Ms. Wang felt something was wrong and called the official customer service number of her credit card bank.

Ms. Wang reported the card number and name, but the other party checked in the bank system and could not find the credit card information at all. Only then did Ms. Wang realize that she had received a fake credit card. Ms. Wang immediately called the police.

According to the police, they often received reports of citizens being defrauded when applying for credit cards online. However, in the past, scammers would not send a credit card first, but instead lied about the card being processed and tricked the victim into sending money to activate it. This method of first sending a fake credit card to the victim is even more confusing.
