I personally think Sam’s is better than Metro. Because Sam’s stores have more items and the price/performance ratio is better than Metro. The most important thing is that there are more Sam’s stores.

Why is Sam’s Store better than Metro?

1. Apply for a card

I have been to both Sam’s stores and Metro, both are membership-based. It is easier to apply for a Sam’s card because Sam has a cooperation with JD.com, and you can apply for a Sam’s card on JD.com. The store's membership card will also be given to JD.com, and the most important thing is that you can apply for a family card at a low price. Metro is a bit troublesome. You need to go to Metro’s official account to apply, and there are no discounts. Compared with Sam’s Club, it is much worse.

2. Types of supermarket items

I am in Guangzhou, and here I found that Sam’s supermarkets are basically bigger than Metro. Sam's also has more items than Metro, and Sam's items are all packaged in bulk, so each time you buy, you buy a week or two's worth of stuff. Metro has both big and small options, and has fewer varieties than Sam’s. For large items, the price-performance ratio is about the same as Sam’s, but for small items, the price-performance ratio is nothing to say. It’s not as good as supermarkets like China Resources Vanguard.

3. Supermarket discounts

Sam’s Store has many discounts in China, because Sam’s Store cooperates with many companies, not only JD.com, but also Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. If you pay with an ICBC card, the discount will be even higher. If you budget carefully and take advantage of ICBC's discount days every week, you can buy a lot of things very cheaply. Of course, you can only get discounts if you buy more, because Sam's positioning is to make small profits but quick turnover. On the contrary, Metro has not cooperated with any companies, and basically there are no discounts. The price is whatever is on the shelf.

4. Supermarket locations

How to say, I don’t know the locations of Sam’s and Metro in other places. But I am in the CBD of Tianhe, Guangzhou. There is a large Sam's Club store seven kilometers away. It only takes about ten minutes to drive there. Metro also has a store in Tianhe, but it is very small and the location is not that good, not even as good as China Resources Vanguard. So I usually go to Sam’s Club.

In general, based on my many years of shopping experience in supermarkets, Sam’s Club is definitely more cost-effective.
