Tokaido Shinkansen connects Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagoya and Osaka, and it has been in operation since 1964. It is the world's first Shinkansen and the first high-speed railway system put into commercial operation.
There are three speed classes for Shinkansen trains.
Hope, Nozomi: It's the fastest and only stops at the most important stations. It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes from Tokyo to Osaka.
Light: The speed is second, about 3 hours.
Echo Eryu: All stations stop, so it's relatively slow, about 4 hours.
3. Tokyo Boarding Apartment
You can also take Shinagawa Station at Haneda Airport.
4. Osaka seating area
Umeda Station: Osaka's transportation hub, where there are many public transport interchange stations (such as J, Sakamoto, Sakamoto, Osaka subway).
But don't worry too much ~ The indicator is clearly marked. Generally, you will transfer at the subway station Meitian, and just follow the indicators after leaving the station.
5. How to buy a ticket/ride
Ticket purchase: first invest money → select the number of people → select the fare → the ticket will come out (this is how automatic ticket vending machines in Japan operate). Cash and credit cards can be used at ticket counters and ticket vending machines selling Shinkansen tickets.
Riding steps:
Step 1: Go through the general gate first.
Most Shinkansen pass through two gates, the first is the ordinary ticket gate, and the second is the Shinkansen ticket gate. Insert the bus ticket at the ordinary ticket gate and retrieve it. Since Japanese railway pass holders can't use the ticket gate, they must show their passes to the railway staff.
Step 2: Go to the Shinkansen platform.
Follow the bilingual bulletin board to the Shinkansen platform. Depending on the design of the station, sometimes the platform of the Shinkansen is similar to that of an ordinary train, and sometimes it is even on different floors.
Step 3: Pass the ticket gate of Shinkansen.
The Shinkansen ticket gate separates passengers from ordinary trains, but some stations directly enter the Shinkansen platform through the Shinkansen ticket gate without passing through the ordinary ticket gate. At the ticket gate of the through Shinkansen, the boarding pass and the urgent ticket should be put into the ticket gate together.
Step 4: Enter the correct Shinkansen platform.
The electronic display will show which flight route the platform leaves, just like looking for the boarding gate of the plane after going through customs at the airport. Almost all Shinkansen platforms are equipped with escalators and elevators.
Step 5: Find the right car card.
There is an electronic display screen on the platform, which shows the name and departure time of the bus. Other panels will show the car number, free seats, designated seats or first-class cars. In some busy stations, two queuing lines are drawn on the platform in front of each door: one is the departure line and the other is the next one. There are usually many people waiting in line in front of the car card with free seats, in order to find a seat after getting on the bus.
Step 6: Find a suitable seat.
The numbers and letters of the seats are the same as those on the plane. Try not to block the passage when releasing the luggage, and let others get on the bus as soon as possible.
Note: Guests holding the Japan Railway Pass JR Pass can take all trains except Nozomi Hope.
