The current policy of major operators is that there is no speed limit within 40g, and those exceeding 40g will be restricted and the network speed will drop to 3g network.
The reason why operators limit the speed of unlimited traffic packages is for self-protection. According to a technical person in the communications industry: Whether it is 3G, 4G, or the upcoming 5G network, the capacity of each base station is limited. Specifically, the number of users that a base station can accommodate and the maximum bandwidth are limited. Moreover, wireless Internet access on mobile phones will occupy the frequency of the base station. If many users use their mobile phones to access the Internet for a long time, or even use their mobile phones as hotspots, the frequency of the base station will be occupied for a long time and cannot be released, which will affect the normal communication of other users.
Although it has experienced multiple rounds of technological changes, wireless spectrum resources are limited, which causes each base station to have its limits. Once all frequencies of a base station are occupied, the base station will be disabled. For this reason, operators will limit the speed, because the slower the wireless Internet speed, the less frequency it takes up. The speed limit is to allow the base station to accommodate more people accessing the Internet. Under current technical conditions, it is impossible for all consumers to use unlimited data packages. Because of this, the three major operators will also limit the maximum Internet traffic of unlimited data packages in a disguised manner while limiting the speed.
Before the launch of China Unicom’s ice cream package, the speed limit threshold of the unlimited traffic package was 40G. As competition intensifies and the number of users of unlimited traffic packages increases, the pressure on each base station of the three major operators increases, and the speed limit threshold of unlimited traffic packages will become 20G. If the number of users of unlimited data plans continues to increase, the speed limit threshold may reach 10G. In this way, the unlimited traffic package becomes a reduced version of the package that is both speed-limited and limited.
In fact, the speed limit is not a domestic patent, it is an internationally accepted practice. When 4G first started operating in the United States, a local operator giant launched an unlimited and unlimited speed package in order to compete for customers. As a result, the network crashed for a time. Finally, operators can only limit user speeds.
