1, filter material

Filter material is the key to maintain the water quality of soft-shelled turtle. Biochemical cotton, activated carbon and ceramic rings can all be used as filter materials. Biochemical cotton can adsorb harmful substances in water, while activated carbon is mainly used to adsorb residual organic substances and heterochromatic proteins. Ceramic ring is mainly used as biological filter material, which decomposes waste in water by microorganisms. Therefore, selecting appropriate filter materials can effectively purify the water quality of soft-shelled turtle.

2. Water temperature

Turtles are reptiles, and they have high requirements for water temperature. Under normal circumstances, the water temperature for turtles to swim should be between 22-28℃, so that turtles can grow and move normally. If the water temperature is too low, the turtle's metabolism will slow down, causing digestive and immune system problems. If it is too high, it will easily lead to insufficient oxygen in the water and affect the turtle's breathing.

3. Change the water regularly

Changing water regularly is also one of the important measures to maintain the water quality of soft-shelled turtle. Change the water at least once a week and heat the fresh water. Water hardness, pH value, ammonia nitrogen, nitrate and other indicators should be detected by water quality testing instruments to ensure that the water quality is within an acceptable range. At the same time, the residue should be cleaned regularly and the filter material used at full load should be replaced.

Overfeeding can also lead to deterioration of water quality. When raising turtles, you should feed them in moderation to prevent over-feeding and turning over the bottom to produce waste.
