In different companies, the roles and responsibilities of product managers are slightly different, but the core responsibilities are the same. We can interpret the main work of the product manager from the five stages of product development:
I. Product Planning
The purpose of product planning is to make R&D work more orderly.
In the product planning stage, the product manager's responsibility is to do a good job of preliminary research and output a complete product planning scheme.
The main work of the preliminary research includes market research, policy analysis, industry trends, competitive product analysis, customer research and so on. After the preliminary research, the product manager should further sort out the research results and data, make clear the product positioning, combine his own resources, make clear the business development trend, plan the system construction direction, and finally output a complete product planning scheme.
Second, the demand analysis
The process of requirement analysis is not a simple requirement processing. The product manager needs to classify the collected requirements according to the actual situation. For example, according to different objects, requirements can be divided into three categories: business requirements, user requirements and functional requirements.
After the product manager classifies the requirements, he can filter the requirements from three dimensions: authenticity, value and feasibility, filter out the false, infeasible, worthless, worthless or unsatisfactory input-output ratio, and extract the essential requirements of customers from the remaining requirements.
Then the requirements are classified and prioritized, which helps the product to arrange the development order in an orderly way, and finally the requirements document is output.
Third, product design.
The process of product design is the process of functionalizing and visualizing product requirements. The product manager needs to output the specific functional design scheme that can realize the demand, so as to support the demander, R&D team, operation team and other interested parties to communicate efficiently and carry out business. The main work of the product manager at this stage includes process design, functional architecture and prototype design.
Fourth, promote the realization of product goals.
First of all, the product manager needs to coordinate the time arrangement of each position and further answer the questions of each position as needed.
Secondly, the product manager should correctly judge the difficulties encountered in the development process, eliminate external interference factors, solve problems for the development team, make timely decisions on demand changes or technical solutions, track the progress of product research and development, and ensure the smooth progress of research and development.
In this process, the product manager should do a good job of communication and coordination with superior leaders and team members, maintain the consistency of information from all parties, communicate effectively, and ensure that the products are promoted according to the established goals.
Verb (abbreviation of verb) acceptance and delivery of products
After the product goes online, the product manager should pay attention to the relevant data in time and do a good job in data analysis. Evaluate whether the product or function achieves the expected effect according to the data. If the expected effect is not achieved, the product manager should take the lead in re-checking, analyze the reasons for not achieving the expected effect, output perfect measures and plans, and seriously implement them. At the same time, the product manager should track customer feedback in time and accumulate data and experience for the next version or product.
