Both Manila and Bermuda belong to warm-season lawns, which are suitable for planting in the south, and have gradually stepped onto the stage in the north in recent years. There are many similarities between the two lawns. Manila grass and Bermuda grass can be used interchangeably. Bermuda grass and Manila grass are widely used in parks, green spaces and sports fields, but they are slightly different.
Manila lawn has hard leaves and is not suitable for people to lie on it. Manila grass will have a dormant period in winter, but Manila grass has a strong ability to resist weeds during the dormant period, so it is less affected by pests and diseases in autumn and winter.
Bermuda grass has a dormant period, so it is planted by mixed sowing, that is, sowing cold-season grass seeds in autumn, so that Bermuda lawn will be evergreen all the year round. Bermuda grass leaves are soft, more suitable for human activities, and playing on Bermuda lawn will be more comfortable. Bermuda lawn is also more resistant to trampling, because its root system is developed and its toughness is good, so it is outstanding in the aspect of trampling resistance.
Growth in Manila and Bermuda is also different. When planting in Manila, the seeds must be planted in deep soil, so that the seeds in Manila can absorb nutrients during their growth and development, thus growing strong roots. However, due to the slow growth rate of Manila, we generally choose to lay turf for planting when funds permit.
Turf paving is a way to improve Manila's growth rate, but attention should also be paid to mowing and irrigation. Because Bermuda grass grows faster, it is usually planted. When sowing, it should be noted that Bermuda grass seeds should not be deeply planted, and the most suitable place in the soil layer is 1 to 2 cm, which is most conducive to the growth of Bermuda grass.
At the same time, both Manila grass and Bermuda grass need to pay attention to irrigation and timely fertilization, so that there will be no shortage of nutrition or low germination rate of grass seeds due to competition with other weeds.
Manila and Bermuda have different uses and strengths in different places, so as long as they are planted in the right place, there will be no question of who is better than who.
