Difference between power coal and coking coal
The function, classification and characteristics of power coal and coking coal are different.

First of all, they have different functions:

1, the function of coking coal: it is mainly used for blast furnace ironmaking and smelting of nonferrous metals such as copper, lead, zinc, titanium, antimony and mercury. It plays the role of reducing agent, heating agent and material column skeleton. Using coking coal instead of charcoal in ironmaking blast furnace has laid the foundation for large-scale modern blast furnace, which is a major milestone in metallurgical history.

2. Function of thermal coal: used as power raw materials, such as power generation, locomotive propulsion, boiler combustion, etc.

Second, the classification of the two is different:

1. Classification of coking coal: dry ash-free volatile VDAF = 10% ~ 28%, caking index G >; of the first kind of coking coal; 65, the maximum thickness of colloidal layer, y? 25 mm. The coking performance of this part of coal is particularly good, and qualified blast furnace coke can be produced independently.

Another kind of coking coal has a dry ash-free volatile matter vdaf = 20% ~ 28% and a caking index g = 50 ~ 65, and its coking property is worse than the former. Coking coal is a typical coking coal with medium volatile matter and good cohesiveness, and can form colloid with good thermal stability when heated.

2. Classification of thermal coal: lignite, long flame coal, lean coal, gas coal, etc.

Third, the characteristics of the two are different:

1. Characteristics of coking coal: strong cohesiveness, high strength, large particle size, high strength and few cracks.

2. Characteristics of power coal: The requirements of power coal for calorific value, volatile matter and ash are not as high as those of chemical coal (such as coking coal for steelmaking). But considering the economic benefits of electric power technology, thermal coal should also have certain quality requirements.
