Duplex stainless steel 2205 alloy is a composite stainless steel composed of 22% chromium, 2.5% molybdenum and 4.5% nickel-nitrogen alloy. It has high strength, good impact toughness and good overall and local stress corrosion resistance.
The yield strength of 2205 duplex stainless steel is more than twice that of ordinary austenitic stainless steel, which enables designers to reduce the weight when designing products, and also makes this alloy more competitive than 3 16 and 3 17L.
This alloy is especially suitable for the temperature range of-50 F/+600 F. For applications beyond this temperature range, this alloy can also be considered, but there are some restrictions, especially when it is applied to welded structures.
Extended data:
Characteristics of 2205 stainless steel:
Compared with 3 16L and 3 17L austenitic stainless steels, 1 and duplex stainless steel 2205 alloys are superior in pitting corrosion and crack corrosion resistance, and have higher corrosion resistance. Compared with austenite, it has lower thermal expansion coefficient and higher thermal conductivity.
2. Compared with austenitic stainless steel, the compressive strength of duplex stainless steel 2205 alloy is twice that of austenitic stainless steel. Compared with 3 16L and 3 17L, designers can reduce their weight.
Alloy 2205 is especially suitable for the temperature range of-50 F/+600 F, and can also be used at lower temperatures under strict restrictions (especially for welded structures).
