How about postgraduate studies at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool?

Let me answer this without any bias or risking my conscience.

I have an undergraduate degree from one of the top 10 financial and economics colleges in China. Because I don’t want to take the postgraduate entrance examination and I will become financially independent in the second semester of my senior year. I don’t have enough money to study abroad for graduate school. I chose this school after doubling the capital provided by my family for stock trading. I am a graduate student at the school, majoring in MSC Finance.

Classmates and background

In addition to economics and finance in the class, the ones with the best undergraduate backgrounds are probably me and another girl from Nanjing Finance. There are also a B-level student and two other students in the class. As a local junior college student in Suzhou, this is obviously not a good choice in terms of knowing students with good backgrounds, but my classmates are very good, so I can rest assured. The unexpected surprise was that I met a 30-year-old classmate who was at the scientific level of a state-owned enterprise. He had experience and was quite good.

Currently, unless there is a connection, the students are basically not very good at finding jobs. One of them even worked as a telephone salesperson. I don’t mean to be discriminatory. It’s just that spending so much money to study and do this is really cost-effective. Not high. I am currently working at the headquarters of a securities firm with a fixed salary, so I can’t say that I am doing the best

, but based on my salary, I am still okay among this group of graduating students. I was able to join the fixed-income securities firm not because the leader valued my school background. It was only because I took the certificate and had rich internship experience before that I was allowed to come.

The summary in this regard is that in a place with a circle like Gushou, or in a particularly powerful job circle, it is basically impossible for you to meet graduate students from XJTLU. The advantages can be said to be far lower than those of ordinary universities such as Donghua University and Suzhou University. Of course, if you go to a good school to study for a master's degree through XJTLU's undergraduate program, it's a separate matter.

Teaching quality

This is the place I least recommend. The reasons are as follows:

Firstly, if you are studying for such a graduate degree in China (I exclude those who do not want to go abroad but are very capable of learning), first of all, you must be familiar with the pure English teaching environment, and almost It’s a bit difficult to keep up with the spoken English of a teacher from Argentina and India. .

The second is the learning content. We are studying financial and economics. The teacher who proposed this course was from Columbia Business School before. He came here because he wanted to come to China for retirement and vacation. He is very old. So the class is very casual. . This course is a relatively in-depth course, such as AD-Security. My boss has never heard of this. It can be imagined that the content you learn is very one-sided. The most useful course may be Money and Banking, but the American The analysis logic of monetary policy and banking system is too different from that in China. If you use this method to interview, you will die miserably. The most annoying thing is the courses related to financial engineering, which use Stata. . To be honest, stata is already a product of the last century. You can also check various recruitment requirements by yourself. Most financial technology positions require python. Can you see that stata can be used to find recruitment notices in 2004? As for some Advanced Investment courses, they are of little use. Although everyone knows that there is a big difference between what you learn at work and what you learn in study, there is always a distance. In Fudan, it may be 50M, but here it may be 100KM. . .

There are also a large number of research positions in finance, such as macro, company, and industry research. After studying for a year and a half, I have not written any decent research reports, including many research institutes and private equity funds. The kind I want, I don’t know how to do industry analysis or company research.

Because of the problem of studying here, most XJTLU finance graduate students can only find service positions, such as bank counters, insurance sales, etc. Please be careful whether the 120,000 tuition fee is worth it.

In addition, there are 3 or 4 people in the class who have signed up for CFA Level 1, and none of them have passed the exam, haha.

The third is employment opportunities. In March or April, the business school found some companies to recruit. . To be honest, the recruiting level was not as high as that of the school I was looking for when I was an undergraduate. Fortunately, there was support from Bank of China or something like that, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to take a look. There are also relatively few recommended internship opportunities near graduation, and the work is mainly printing and doing odd jobs. It is reasonable for this undergraduate to study. Several classmates’ friends circles at work are all "boring and asking for flirting", and graduate students It's not that reasonable to do it. It seems that the investment management major is better, and their instructors have more internship opportunities.

The fourth is the environment. If you study here, you can live very comfortably with a relatively low cost of living. Two people share a dormitory with air conditioning and elevators. It is very convenient. The classmates are very harmonious. The school The library is great, except for the poor wireless signal.

The summary is (this is limited to business schools, because XJTLU is an engineering school), this school must first be for profit, so if you have a strong self-learning ability, you can learn what you want to learn. You can come here to take CPA, CFA, learn Python, etc. I know many people who actually don’t have a job and haven’t gone to graduate school abroad. They come here just to make a living. There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m the same way. There is no pressure in life and I don’t want to enter a complicated society too early. I can also get a diploma easily. It’s pretty good. That’s what I thought at the time. Come here, concentrate on stocks and futures, and then get the master's degree, which is quite cool.

But if you want to really learn something, experience a better learning environment that is different from that in China, or want to find a good job such as investment banking, you can come here and you will be happy. No. I am only talking about graduate students. It is quite good to study at XJTLU for undergraduate studies. I know several graduate students who have applied to universities such as Oxford and Cambridge.

I think my point of view is relatively objective, and it is different from those that were obviously created by my school’s public relations officer. .

Finally, I hope everyone will be responsible for their own choices.
