1, Wharton Institute of Economics

Wharton Economic Research Institute (Wei), formerly known as Shanghai Economic Development Research Institute, was established in 1988. It is the first consulting institution in China to conduct all-round and comprehensive research on macro-economy, regional economy and enterprise development.

The aim and task of this institute is to conduct a comprehensive study on the economic development of China, especially Shanghai, on the basis of combining theory with practice. The principal responsible person is Director Shen Hanyao, honorary director: Yu Guangyuan, and consultants: Gao Shangquan and Merton? Miller.

1In April, 1988, with the care and support of Wang Daohan, the former mayor of Shanghai, and with the approval of the leaders of the then Shanghai municipal government, Shanghai Economic Development Research Institute was formally established, with Shen Hanyao as its president. Shanghai Economic Development Research Institute was renamed Wharton Economic Research Institute in 2003 and registered as Shanghai Wharton Economic Management Consulting Company.

Many experts and scholars have served as the leaders of the institute. Mr. Yu Guangyuan, an economist from China, is the honorary director of the Institute, and Mr. Wang Daohan, the former mayor of Shanghai, and Mr. merton miller, the Nobel laureate in economics, are the consultants of the Institute.

Mr. Gao Shangquan, an economist in China and former deputy director of the State Commission for Economic Restructuring, is now a consultant of the Institute, and Mr. Shen Hanyao, winner of the Sun Yefang Economics Prize, is the dean.

2. Mainly engaged in

Since its establishment, the Institute has been mainly engaged in economic research, management consulting, forum meetings and other fields, presided over the completion of hundreds of various topics and research reports, and cooperated with many national governments, research institutions, enterprises, local governments and industry associations.

The Institute has successively completed a number of major topics related to the national strategy, such as "Research on Employment in China" (putting forward the concept of "hidden unemployment" for the first time and winning the Sun Economics Award).

Research on Pudong Development and Hangzhou Bay Development, China Securities Market, China Futures Market, Dahongqiao Development, Foreign Exchange Reserve Strategy, Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Center, Chuzhou Science and Technology Innovation City, etc.

The Institute also provides consulting services to governments and enterprises in Chuzhou Economic Development Zone, Jinan, Wuxi, Suzhou and other regions, and has been hired as consultants by many local governments and enterprises.
