The HarmonyOS system born by Huawei meets some external expectations.

10 On the afternoon of September, at the Huawei Developers Conference 2020 (together), Huawei officially launched the HarmonyOS System 2.0 system, confirmed that it would adapt to smart wearable devices, and announced that it would access the mobile phone line next year.

Another key area-mobile ecology, Huawei HMS Core (Huawei Mobile Service) has also attracted everyone's attention. At present, there are 96,000 integrated HMS core applications in the world, and the number of overseas boutique applications on Huawei AppGallery has increased from 6,000 last year to 73,000.

Once upon a time, Huawei was just a hardware manufacturer. After being "cut off" by Google, it accelerated the pace of getting out of the comfort zone and became a software layer such as a system that it was not good at.

When HarmonyOS system 1.0 was released in August last year, it was only a paper plan of PPT, which was not disclosed to the outside world for one year. Some people even commented that mobile phones used to have futures, and now even OS has futures. Huawei's hardware strategy is 1+8+N, that is, mobile phone+tablet, TV, computer, watch, bracelet and so on. +Internet of Things, supported by HarmonyOS system. By this year's version 2.0, it seems that the code really came out, and many people in the industry began to positively evaluate it.

Some analysts believe that HMS Core and HarmonyOS OS are the most critical mobile phone systems, which directly affect application developers. However, the domestic Android camp is divided, and now there is a HarmonyOS system, so developers need to adapt to it. In other words, whoever catches the developer will catch the user and the market.

A public source told Shenzhan Finance that although HarmonyOS was a lifesaver, he was born with expectations that he should not bear. "From the current point of view, the HarmonyOS system, which was not originally designed to cope with the status quo, needs to become an OS in various fields such as desktop, mobile and embedded."

Draw a key point first:

1 and HarmonyOS OS 2.0 mainly strengthen the distributed capability. HarmonyOS's operating system will release the test version of smart phone HarmonyOS system to domestic developers for the first time at the end of 2020. The mobile phone equipped with HarmonyOS OS will arrive on 202 1.

2. The EMUI 1 1 system fully draws lessons from the distributed technology of HarmonyOS System 2.0, and the mobile phone using EMUI11can upgrade HarmonyOS System OS 2.0 in the future.

3. The release of 3.HMS Core 5.0 has five service engines, including payment, advertisement, browsing, map and search. At present, it has been extended to seven fields, such as graphics, artificial intelligence, media, systems, security and intelligent terminals. The open capability has increased from 14 last year to 56 suites, and the API has increased from 885 to 1298 1.

4. In the loT field, Huawei HiLink has activated 50 million eco-users, and the installation of smart life APP has reached 400 million, with an average of 65.438+0 billion device interaction requests in the whole scene.

After watching the press conference that day, the senior product manager judges felt that Huawei should be a collection of Google+ Apple+Qualcomm+Amazon, not only releasing HarmonyOS OS2.0, but also building infrastructure, including systems, hardware, chips and cloud services.

According to the beta schedule for developers released by Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei's consumer business, September 2020 10 is mainly for watches, cars and large-screen terminals, and February 12 is officially for mobile phones, gradually realizing the coverage of different terminals.

As a core device, mobile phones have rigid requirements for communication stability, chip compatibility and standby. HarmonyOS system without a lot of verification, starting from peripheral non-mobile devices, using HMS to migrate the ecosystem of Android is a bit like borrowing chickens to lay eggs.

"It's impossible to get so many developers and users out of thin air, because users don't care what OS is used at the bottom, and there's no need to pursue the current mobile phone with HarmonyOS system. Anyway, the underlying Linux and Android can't be banned in the United States. Huawei will move users bit by bit on the basis of existing Android. " Deep burning judge's financial analysis.

HMS Core in Huawei's mobile ecosystem has also attracted everyone's attention.

The reason why HMS is the core is actually against GMS. Although Android is open source, Google has the final say behind it. Google made a GMS system based on open source Android, and bound most of its services, such as email, search, video, maps and so on.

In the past, there was a service integrated by Google, and there was no need to build wheels separately. Now that Huawei has been sanctioned, GMS can't be used, and Android may not be able to continue upgrading in the future.

"This also forced Huawei to take the opportunity of HMS to rebuild its own wheels." According to the judge, at the same time, we should cultivate our own end users and developers under the HMS ecology, and as long as they hold them in their hands, they will be able to play Google.

But in fact, these wheels did not start from Google's supply of GMS system, because Huawei, Xiaomi and OV in China can't use GMS services, and they all build their own software service systems on the Android framework, while Huawei has independently released the concept of HMS.

At the developer conference that day, Huawei also gave a light kick to the Xiaomi eco-chain model, saying that it would not be a destroyer of the loT industry and provide technical support for traditional home appliances and furniture manufacturers, but it would not make its own products.

This ability to support developers with ecology is Huawei's advantage. "Huawei is a to B company in its bones. At this point, it is a return to the traditional advantage battlefield. " The judge said.

Fuchsia, the operating system born by Google nearly three years ago, also hopes to unify different devices such as smart homes, laptops and mobile phones, and build a huge ecosystem with a single system. But so far, Google has not applied it to any device, and the user's perception is low.

From this dimension, Huawei HarmonyOS OS and it stand on the same starting line. In the judge's view, this is an opportunity for Huawei to overtake in corners. Google's interruption of supply has objectively accelerated Huawei's research and development progress and application speed.

As for the ending, it is inevitable that people think that Samsung bada, Nokia's MeeGo, palmOS, Alibaba Cloud OS and Samsung Tizen all want to be independent of Android, and almost none of them succeed.

However, the judge believes that the installed capacity of the above-mentioned systems is not enough, and the popularity of users is not enough, including the limited realization channels for applications in those years. On the other hand, Google's Fuchsia is more beneficial to the most important advertising business based on sufficient user access. Today's Huawei is based on the accumulation of technology, capital, time nodes and terminals at home and abroad. It is logical to build an ecosystem from scratch, and it is the only one in China that has this strength.

However, HarmonyOS System 2.0 was released at a sensitive node five days before September 15, and everyone was worried about Huawei.

Since May last year, the United States has launched three rounds of sanctions against Huawei. Due to the influence of the entity list, Huawei is faced with the situation that there is no operating system and no chips available. September 15 is the deadline for the supply suspension. Bad news is still coming. Recently, Korean and American memory chip manufacturers Samsung, Hynix and Micron will also stop supplying.

When HarmonyOS OS will be put on mobile phones has become a more concerned issue. "As long as you like, Huawei can change it tomorrow, but it's not that important." The judge's opinion is almost the same as that of Yu Chengdong. The reason is that, on the one hand, Google will not completely cut off its supply, on the other hand, even if it is eager to switch to HarmonyOS system, it belongs to the level that consumers and even developers can't perceive.

The pessimistic view is that Huawei has brought the latest HarmonyOS OS, and even with the HMS core, the recovery situation is limited.

The previous ban was mainly to cut off Google's GMS supply to Huawei. Huawei officially developed HMS Core last year, and the corresponding underlying capabilities include search, map, payment and other underlying capabilities. Up to now, HMS has supported 96,000 applications, with 6.5438+0.8 million developers and 490 million active users. From 654.38+0 to August this year, 2,665.438+0 billion applications were distributed, which Yu Chengdong described as "the third largest application ecology in the world is breaking ground".

However, Wang Chao, founder of Yuan Wen think tank, thinks that if Huawei doesn't use Google's GMS suite, whether it is self-developed or not, there is no alternative in overseas markets, which means it must rely on Google in overseas markets.

As for the domestic market, the Android system itself is not affected, and Huawei's new software ecological products can't change the hardware that has been cut off. "Since it entered the China market, it is not a native system. It has been transformed by various mobile phone manufacturers, and Google basically has no control ability. " Wang Chao said that even though Google's desire to control Android has become stronger around the world, it can't do anything about this unique market in China.

HarmonyOS system was born, shouldering undue expectations and shelving the important mission of "saving Huawei". More than one interviewee raised a big question mark about the business prospect of this newly released software eco-product.

It was mentioned at the meeting that Huawei will build five new global developer service centers in Romania, Russia, Egypt, Mexico and Malaysia. In Wang Chao's view, these are small developers in some countries, while big developers live well in iOS and Android, so it is difficult to have the motivation to come to Huawei's ecology.

Compared with Google's Fuchsia, the advantage of HarmonyOS OS is that Huawei has more users and devices, but Wang Chao thinks that the core is whether developers can make money, and on this issue, the competitors are too strong.

Neither Android nor iOS relies on advertising, that is to say, advertising revenue has limited appeal to developers, but unlike iOS, Google has limited control and profitability over Android. According to the report released by App Annie 2065 438+08, the download volume of Google Play is more than twice that of the iOS app store, but its revenue is only 65.4% of that of iOS.

"Google play is easy to bypass. In China, the Android market is completely free." Wang Chao told Shenzhan Finance that Android, as a mobile phone system that has evolved for more than ten years and is very mature in the world, can Huawei still collect money? What's more, under the stable Android ecosystem, the difficulty of building a software ecosystem can be imagined.

So can Huawei attract mobile phone manufacturers?

At present, in addition to Huawei, there are Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo in the TOP5 mobile phone manufacturers in the Android camp. Besides Samsung, is it possible for other three domestic manufacturers to adopt HarmonyOS system?

"impossible." Wang Chao said that even if the other party is Ali or Tencent, everyone may try, but Huawei, which is getting bigger and bigger, is the deadly enemy of these manufacturers.

Yu Chengdong revealed yesterday that Huawei's mobile phone market share in the past quarter exceeded 565,438+0%. The mobile phone shipments in Chinese mainland market in the second quarter announced by Konashe Company show that Huawei's market share is as high as 44.3%, which is the sum of the shipments of vivo, OPPO and Xiaomi.

"Unless Google kills them, no one will use them. (Other mobile phone manufacturers) will only rely more and more on the HarmonyOS system in the end, and the future will be everything. " Wang Chao specifically mentioned that Google makes mobile phones mainly for display, not for shipment, and it does not pose a threat to mobile phone manufacturers, which is completely different from Huawei.

Generally speaking, Wang Chao's point of view is that it is no problem for HarmonyOS to apply Huawei itself, cooperative manufacturers and small-scale ecology, but it is difficult for other mobile phone manufacturers to adopt its system.

"How much did Huawei invest in HarmonyOS system and how hard did it work? At least Huawei has a hard time replicating the success of Android. This is not just a question of money. " The above-mentioned open source people told Shenzhan Finance.
