Since September 7, 2007, the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has been the single largest shareholder of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, holding 5.88% of the shares. According to section 6 1 of the Securities and Futures Ordinance, no one may hold 5% or more of the shares of HKEx unless the SFC gives written approval after consulting the Financial Secretary of Hong Kong.
HKEx is a listed company, which is listed in HKEx. Other shares are held by some scattered institutions or individuals.
