Fang, 1952 was born in Hunan, 1982 graduated from Sun Yat-sen University and studied advanced management courses at Harvard Business School. He is currently the chairman of Hopu Investment and the chairman of Goldman Sachs Gaohua Securities.
He has served as Vice President of China International Finance Corporation, President of China International Finance Corporation, CEO of BOC International and CEO of Industrial and Commercial East Asia. He once worked in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and the Foreign Economic and Trade Commission of Henan Province, and successively served as the general manager of Henan Grain, Oil and Food Import and Export Corporation, the general manager of Zhongyuan International Trade, the executive deputy general manager of China Zhongyuan Group, and the president of Yintai Holding Co., Ltd., participated in the design of Zhengzhou Agricultural Products Futures Exchange, the first futures exchange in China, and presided over the planning of Sanya Real Estate Investment Voucher, the first real estate securitization product in China.
Fang has led and participated in many large-scale capital market projects, including China Telecom's acquisition of Hongkong Telecom and PCCW's acquisition; China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, China Petroleum, China Petrochemical, China Offshore Oil and Baosteel were reorganized and listed. Fang was named one of the "Top Ten Most Influential People in China's Capital Market" by Financial Asia. In 2008, he was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution Award for Financial Services Development in Asia" by Euromoney.
During his tenure as an investment bank, Fang has been involved in the field of equity investment, and once served as the chairman of the direct investment Committee, leading the completion of a number of investment projects.
In March 2008, Fang co-founded Hopu with He Chaohui, former chairman of KPMG Greater China, and former senior banker of Goldman Sachs. The first fund managed was $2.5 billion, and the main investors included internationally renowned institutions such as Temasek, Goldman Sachs and PSA.
