The difference between mini LED and organic light-emitting diode is different in principle, brightness, contrast, response time and refresh rate.

1, the principle is different

There are essential differences between mini-LED and organic light-emitting diode in display principle. Mini LED is still a LCD-based display technology, which needs LED backlight module. However, organic light-emitting diodes have the characteristic of self-illumination of pixels and do not need backlight.

2. Different brightness

The brightness of most mini LED displays can reach above 500cd/㎡, and the peak brightness of some high-end models can even exceed 1000cd/㎡. This is because the Mini LED backlight is small, and the display of the same size can be equipped with more backlights, and the brightness will naturally be greatly improved.

The brightness of organic light-emitting diodes is much lower, and the brightness of mainstream organic light-emitting diode displays is mostly lower than 250cd/㎡. The main reason is that the luminous efficiency of luminescent materials used in organic light-emitting diode displays is not high, and the brightness will be limited in order to avoid "screen burning". Although the brightness of OLED display screen is not as high as that of Mini LED display screen, it is enough for daily use.

3, the contrast is different

From the measured data of several Mini LED displays, most of them only have the contrast ratio of1000:1,and the data is not improved compared with the previous W-LED displays, even worse than the VA panel displays. However, the contrast of organic light-emitting diode displays can even be close to infinity when they are fully open and closed, because when the brightness of organic light-emitting diode displays is the lowest, the backlight brightness is close to off, and the contrast is naturally higher.

4. Different response times

There are many IPS panels used in Mini LED display, and their response time is 1ms, and some can even reach 0.5 ms ... This data has completely caught up with the eliminated TN panel. The response time of OLED display is more eye-catching, reaching 0. 1 ms, which makes OLED more suitable for application in e-sports display.

5. The refresh rate is different.

The refresh rate of mainstream Mini LED display can reach 4K@ 144Hz or 2K@ 165Hz and above. Although the current organic light-emitting diodes can reach 4K resolution, the refresh rate is generally not high. At present, the main products on sale are 4K@ 120Hz and 4K@ 138Hz, and some flagship models can reach 4K@ 175Hz.
