Among them, the OTA upgrade of the whole vehicle can update the power system, gearbox logic and engine function of the vehicle, but this function is not common in fuel vehicles at present. After all, when the fuel vehicle leaves the factory, the power system of the whole vehicle has undergone strict certification and basically does not need to be upgraded.
Functional OTA upgrade is an upgrade method carried by most cars at present, and this function is mainly completed by smart cars. As the bottom layer of intelligent in-vehicle system, Android accounts for a large proportion, so it is doomed that its whole upgrade process is similar to that of mobile phones.
I happen to have a Shadow Leopard in my hand, so take it as an example to share the experience of OTA upgrade of vehicles and see if the fuel vehicle needs OTA upgrade.
The upgrade of Shadow Leopard OTA is only for version J 16. Open the system page of the vehicle to view the current version. If there is a supported update, a window prompt will usually pop up.
Shadow Leopard's in-vehicle system does not support multi-version update. If there are more than two versions of your car system that have not been updated, you can only drive the car back to the 4S shop to upgrade the car, just like the brushing system of Android phones.
The upgrade of online mode can also be divided into two situations. One is the upgrade of the function package, just like Android 1 1. 1 to 1 1.2, only fixing bugs and upgrading some functions. This OTA upgrade package is relatively small and the upgrade speed is relatively fast.
The other is system update, which is similar to upgrading the mobile phone system from Android 1 1 to Android 12. The whole system needs to be reformed, the installation package is too big and the upgrade time is too long.
The push of Shadow Leopard is a system update. The whole installation package is about 2g. The system will automatically download in the background at leisure, and the update period is determined by the user. After the upgrade, the whole process will take about 25 minutes, during which the dashboard and central control will be black for many times, so don't update while driving.
At present, the traffic required for OTA upgrade of most vehicles is usually free. If you want to experience new functions, it is good to spend some time upgrading.
After the upgrade is completed, the most obvious perception is that the theme of the dashboard has become more and more, which can be switched by itself as needed, as well as power and torque indication. This low-level information reading usually only occurs when the system is updated.
Secondly, the functions of vehicles become more abundant. OTA upgrade is to develop more new functions based on the existing hardware of the vehicle, so if the hardware does not support it, it will not be used for upgrade.
On the system level, Shadow Leopard has added themes, Cantonese speech recognition, boot greetings, bad weather reminders, and road condition reminders of common routes. And more adaptive applications have been launched in the application mall.
On the functional level, based on the two cameras of Shadow Leopard J 16, this upgrade has added functions such as gesture song cutting, gesture picture cutting, taking photos in the car, reminding children that the safety seat is not installed correctly, etc.
Judging from the OTA upgrade of Shadow Leopard, the process is relatively smooth. Generally speaking, it is to optimize the system logic and make the instrument display effect richer, but it is only a small update at the functional level.

Back to the original question, is it necessary for fuel vehicles to upgrade OTA in time? My understanding is that the hardware and software of the fuel truck are relatively fixed, basically finalized after the official delivery, and there is almost no "futures" state with functions not yet open. Unless there are particularly important contents in the OTA upgrade, I suggest that frequent upgrades are not needed.
