Dalian, also known as Bincheng, formerly known as Darini and Qingniwa, is a sub-provincial city and a city under separate state planning in Liaoning Province. Located at the southern tip of Liaodong Peninsula in Liaoning Province, on the coast of the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea, backed by the northeast hinterland of China and across the sea from Shandong Peninsula, it is an important economic, trade, port, industrial and tourist city on the eastern coast of China.
The total area of the city is 12574 square kilometers, including 24 15 square kilometers in the old city. There are many mountains and hills in this area, and few plains. The whole terrain is high in the north and low in the south, wide in the north and narrow in the south. The terrain inclines from the central axis to the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea on the southeast and northwest sides, and the side facing the Yellow Sea is long and slow. Dalian is located in the warm temperate zone of the northern hemisphere. The continental monsoon climate with maritime characteristics has no severe cold in winter, no intense heat in summer and four distinct seasons. The annual average temperature is 10.5 degrees Celsius, the annual precipitation is 550-950 mm, and the total sunshine hours are 2500-2800 hours.
It has jurisdiction over 2 county-level cities (wafangdian city and zhuanghe city), 1 county (Changhai County) and 7 districts (Zhongshan District, Xigang District, Shahekou District, Ganjingzi District, Lushunkou District, Jinzhou District and Pulandian District). In addition, there are three national opening-up pilot zones, namely Jinpu New District, Bonded Zone and High-tech Industrial Park, as well as Changxing Island Lingang Industrial Zone and Huayuankou Economic Zone.
