Tao of nature
The text tells a thought-provoking story in the order of events. The author, his companion and a biologist guide went to Galapagos Island in the South Pacific in droves to observe how young turtles left their nests and entered the sea. When they saw a baby turtle sticking out of its hole and being bitten and pecked by a robin, they ignored the guide's advice and asked him to carry the baby turtle into the sea. Then, groups of small turtles got the wrong message and thought it was safe outside, so they filed out of the nest. As a result, many young turtles have become food for carnivorous birds. Although "we" saved some little turtles, we are still very shocked and sorry. This story tells us that if we don't act according to the laws of nature, we will often have the opposite result to our wishes.
Turtle is a large marine reptile, which appeared on the earth almost at the same time as dinosaurs. Later, he moved from land to sea and survived with a suit of armor and a unique lifestyle. It can swim in the sea at a speed of 32 kilometers per hour, dive to a depth of 50 to 100 meters, and breathe at the sea every ten minutes. Although turtles live in the ocean, they keep the breeding habits of their ancestors. Male and female turtles reach the "marriageable age" when they are 20 to 25 years old. Female turtles will go to their birthplace and climb the land to lay eggs. At night, they use their forelimbs to dig a sand nest on the beach that can accommodate their bodies, then climb into the sand nest, and use their hind limbs to dig a spawning pit with a depth of 30 cm under the reproductive hole, and then lay eggs in two to five times, with an interval of 10 to 15 days, and lay 52 to 2 eggs each time. Whenever it lays eggs, it puts sand on the egg pile with its hind legs and presses it with its forelimbs. Climb to another place, dig out the sand with your claws, and press it on it to confuse natural enemies. Turtles lay hundreds of eggs in each period. Eggs are white and tough, not easy to break, and look like table tennis. After laying eggs, the turtle dragged his tired body back to the sea. The next breeding interval is 2 to 9 years (usually 3 years), and the eggs buried in the bunker naturally hatch by the heat of the sun and the temperature of the sand. The incubation time is about two months. After the baby turtle broke its shell, it struggled to climb out of the thick sand, and then climbed into the sea in a hurry by the signal of a large area of sea lights. How did the adult mother turtle find her birthplace and climb into her mother's bed to carry on the family line? Some scientists take the green turtle as an experiment, and think that it is particularly sensitive to the smell of extremely thin organic compounds, and can feel a gas factor that is different from the home ocean. When little turtles rush into the ocean, they remember the smell of their hometown. This is how they find their way. Some scientists put transmitters and antennas on turtles and use remote control technology for research. They think turtles use star navigation to identify their way home. Some people think that turtles can remember the geomagnetic direction and the elevation angle of the magnetic axis of their birthplace. Scientists have different opinions, and this natural mystery needs further exploration and research. There are not many turtles on the earth. Over the years, due to a large number of indiscriminate killing, looting of turtle eggs and destruction of spawning and breeding environment, the number of turtles ashore has dropped sharply year by year, and China has listed turtles as second-class protected wild animals.
