CFTC was established by the US Congress in 1974. Its initial task was to supervise the commodity futures and options market in the United States.

In the future, the task scope of CFTC will be gradually updated and expanded, especially after the authorization of Commodity Futures Modernization Act (CFMA) in 2000.

COT Reports is a report issued by CFTC every Friday and submitted by futures or options exchanges in Chicago, new york, Kansas City and Minneapolis.

This report divides traders in the market into three categories, and records and counts the position distribution of these three types of traders at the close of Tuesday, so that investors can have a general understanding of the supply and demand of commodity futures in the market this week. The main function of the report is to provide investors with timely information about the futures market transactions and enhance the transparency of the futures trading market.
