What material is silica gel?
Silica gel, also known as silicic acid gel, is a highly active adsorption material and belongs to amorphous substances. The main component of silica gel is silica, which is soft, stable, absorbent and not easy to burn. In our life, different kinds of silica gel can be used as artificial mandible, auricle and nose prosthesis, or as a binder for refractory materials, or as moisture-proof and rust-absorbing.

Characteristics of silica gel

Silicone rubber has the advantages of heat resistance, cold resistance, dielectric, ozone resistance and atmospheric aging resistance. The outstanding performance of silicone rubber is that it can be used for a long time at -60℃ (or lower temperature) to +250℃ (or higher temperature).

The disadvantages of silicone rubber are: poor mechanical properties such as tensile strength and tear strength, and the physical and mechanical properties at room temperature are not as good as those of most synthetic rubbers. Generally, the oil resistance and solvent resistance of silicone rubber are poor except nitrile silicon and fluorosilicone rubber.

Functional use

1, silica gel is mainly used for moisture absorption and rust prevention of instruments, meters and equipment under closed conditions.

2, with ordinary silica gel desiccant, indicate the degree of moisture absorption of desiccant, judge the relative humidity of the environment. As a silica gel desiccant for packaging, it is widely used in precision instruments, leather, clothing, food, medicine and household appliances.

3. Because of its food-grade use, silica gel can be used as a product in direct contact with human body, such as a baby nipple. In addition, silica gel can also be used to produce condoms.
