Different functions: the main functions of futures are hedging and price discovery, generally hedging spot, while hedging options can hedge futures.

Others are some differences in trading methods, such as margin provisions, settlement methods and performance guarantees. In the performance guarantee, both parties need to open a margin account for futures, and only the seller (issuer) needs to open a margin account for options.
