During this period, with the further prosperity of agriculture and handicrafts, the commodity economy of the Western Zhou Dynasty developed rapidly. As the business of slave nobles, shellfish and bronzes mainly played the role of money. Metal coins were gradually widely circulated in the Western Zhou Dynasty, but Bei coins were still the main currency form in this period and were widely used. This can be clearly seen from the archaeological discoveries in the Central Plains and the rewards in the inscriptions of the Western Zhou Dynasty.
