What is the American Cotton Association?
American cotton is not the same as high-quality cotton. The United States is the second largest cotton producer in the world, but the planting cost is relatively high. In order to increase the competitiveness of American cotton in the international market and promote exports, the American government has provided generous subsidies to cotton farmers. The U.S. government provides subsidies of more than $3 billion to its cotton farmers every year, accounting for 10% to 20% of the cotton price. In this way, the export price of American cotton is very low, which leads many countries to snap up American cotton without overstocking their own cotton, thus maximizing the export volume of American cotton.
