In what year did the Republic of China silver dollar Yuan Datou stop circulating?
1927, the national government stopped issuing Yuan Datou and started casting commemorative silver dollar (Sun Xiaotou). 1935 issued legal tender, which prohibited the circulation of silver dollar. Theoretically, Yuan Datou began to stop circulating. However, in reality, Yuan Datou was still widely used because of the constant war, chaotic monetary system and serious inflation of legal tender during the Republic of China. Even after the liberation of New China, the government also cast a batch of Yuan Datou for use in remote areas in southwest China, numbered 1950. Therefore, strictly speaking, after the founding of New China, Yuan Datou stopped circulating, and the second set of RMB began to be widely accepted by the people of the whole country.
