Han Huang's "Five Cows" is one of the top ten famous paintings handed down from generation to generation in China. It is one of the few authentic works of paper and silk painting handed down from the Tang Dynasty and is also the oldest surviving painting. Han Huang, courtesy name Taichong, was a native of Chang'an in the Tang Dynasty. He lived through four dynasties from Xuanzong to Dezong. He was the son of Han Xiu, the prime minister of the Tang Dynasty. During the Dezong period of the Tang Dynasty, he successively served as prime minister, governor of two Zhejiang provinces, and was granted the title of Duke of Jin. He was a landlord class politician who supported unity and opposed separatism.
He is good at painting people and animals. He writes cows, sheep, donkeys and other animals with vivid expressions, especially cows, which are "perfectly beautiful".
