After the establishment of the National Medical Insurance Administration in 2018, the first special action launched was to crack down on fraud and fraudulent insurance. According to statistics, from September 2018 to the end of the year, in only 3 months, 1.008 billion yuan in medical insurance funds was investigated and recovered.

This was the first year of the campaign to combat insurance fraud. In the second year, with the redoubled efforts of the regulatory authorities, in 2019, a total of 11.556 billion yuan of insurance fraud funds were recovered throughout the year.

In 2020, more than 600,000 designated medical institutions were inspected, more than 400,000 designated medical institutions that violated laws and regulations were dealt with, and 22.31 billion yuan in medical insurance funds were recovered.
