Xu Teli worked as a teacher in Wu Meiyuan in his early years. Later, he entered the Russian school run by the Russian Episcopal Church in Changsha. In middle age, I worked as a natural science teacher in Hunan Agricultural School, a crash course for teachers, and a primary school attached to the teacher workshop. 1905, Changsha Normal School was established. He used to be the principal of Hunan First Women's Normal School, Hunan Women's University and Hunan First Normal School.

1927, Changsha Women's Normal School was established as the principal. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), he successively served as member of the Central People's Government, member of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC), member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, vice chairman of China People's Political Consultative Conference, deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the CPC, and vice president of China Academy of Social Sciences.

1936, 1 1 June, the skull fossil of "Peking man" was discovered. This discovery shocked the academic circles in the world, making the Peking Man Site one of the most important ancient human sites in the world. After learning this news, Xu Teli immediately negotiated with the Institute of History of Beiping Research Institute to raise funds to support the Zhoukoudian Tooth Carving Cooperative in carving ape-man skulls, which was published in early 1937.

The excavation of No.277 parietal bone is of great significance and will push the study of paleoanthropology to a new peak. It is necessary to preserve and study No.277 parietal bone. As a result, 25 scholars including Xu Teli jointly launched the Declaration on the Sorting, Preservation and Publicity of China No.277 Head Shadow to spare no effort to protect this precious cultural heritage.
