What are the application requirements for Canadian scholarships?
Canadian scholarships and bursaries are provided to both domestic students and overseas students. According to the source of scholarships and grants, they can be divided into three categories: one is provided by the government, the other is provided by private individuals and private foundations, and the third is provided by schools. However, the opportunities for scholarships and grants for undergraduate students in Canada are far less than those for master's and doctoral students. Foreign graduate students can receive teaching assistantships and research assistantships in Canada.
Most scholarships in Canada are classified by subject. Used to reward or promote students' research in certain fields. The criteria for awarding some scholarships are based on the applicant's academic performance, and there are more opportunities for outstanding academic performance. As an award, the scholarship is naturally provided to the applicant free of charge. Because the number of people who can receive scholarships is very small, and the amount of scholarships varies. For example, the University of Western Ontario graduate scholarship has more than 1,000 places, but most of it is given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and only a few dozen are given to foreign students. The bonus for each place is about 13,000 Canadian dollars (approximately 65,000 yuan per person). Some students can even receive several bonuses at the same time, with the total annual amount reaching more than 30,000 Canadian dollars (approximately RMB 150,000).
As for the bursary, it is a financial aid provided by the school or the government to students with financial difficulties, which is equivalent to the poverty subsidies provided by some domestic universities. However, this bursary is rarely available to international students.
1. Scholarship. One prerequisite for applying for a scholarship is that your grades must be excellent. Under this premise, you also need to write an application (this application can be made at the same time as the admission application) and submit it to the school. When the school approves the student and awards you a scholarship after passing the review, your scholarship application will be successful. This type of scholarship is directly targeted at the applicant. When the application is approved, the scholarship will be awarded to the applicant unconditionally. There is also a category of scholarships, which are Canadian aid to foreign development projects. Applicants must apply to the government of their country or the embassy in Canada in advance, and it must be recognized by the relevant units in their country. Generally, those who receive this kind of scholarship must sign a contract with the government of their home country and be included in a public-sponsored project. They must return to their home country to serve after graduation.
2. Bursaries. As mentioned before, the probability of international students applying for scholarships is too low. Almost all are given to Canadian residents and permanent residents. Canadian residents and permanent residents can apply for student loans from their governments, and the interest rates are very low. This generally requires two conditions. One is that the applicant is a resident of the province and has lived in the province for more than 12 months. The second is students from low-income families.
