Ruijin Hospital was built in 1907, formerly known as Guangci Hospital. It is a third-level comprehensive hospital integrating medical care, teaching, and scientific research, with a century-old heritage.

The hospital covers an area of ??110,000 square meters, with a construction area of ??370,000 square meters, a green area of ??40,000 square meters, and 1,893 approved beds (2,139 are actually open). The hospital has 4,402 employees, including 3,841 health professionals and technicians.

It has a large number of well-known medical experts at home and abroad, including Chen Zhu and Chen Guoqiang, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Wang Zhenyi, Chen Saijuan, and Ning Guang, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Among them, academician Wang Zhenyi won the 2010 National Highest Science and Technology Award.

In 2016, it has received a total of 182 scientific research projects at all levels and national key R&D plans.

There are 13 projects (topics) and 93 National Natural Science Foundation projects, with a total scientific research funding of 145 million yuan.

The hospital currently has 23 doctoral programs in secondary disciplines, 16 master's degree programs in secondary disciplines, 124 doctoral supervisors, and 174 master's supervisors. The departments of internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, and pediatrics are all postdoctoral mobile stations.
