Tang Lixing graduated from the History Department of Nanjing University. He has long been engaged in research on China’s social and economic history (16th to the first half of the 20th century). He is currently a professor at the School of Humanities of Shanghai Normal University, the subject leader of the doctoral program in modern Chinese history, the key subject leader of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, the director of the Research Center for Modern Chinese Society of Shanghai Normal University, and a member of the Academic Committee of Shanghai Normal University. He was the director of the Local History Research Office of Soochow University, a doctoral supervisor, a member of the Academic Committee of Soochow University, and the deputy director of the Academic Committee of the School of Social Sciences. He was a visiting researcher at Daito Bunka University in Japan and a researcher at the History Department of Anhui Normal University. Vice president of the Chinese Social History Society and director of the Jiangsu Provincial History Society. Member of the “95” planning subject expert group for philosophy and social science research in Jiangsu Province. In 1997, he was hired by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as a member of the expert group for communication evaluation of doctoral and master's degree programs. He has gone to Japan to give lectures and conduct collaborative research at the University of Tokyo, Daito Bunka University, National Taiwan University, and Academia Sinica, Taiwan.
