The main mode of transportation in Ghana is road transportation. In recent years, the government has vigorously developed road infrastructure construction, and capital investment accounted for more than half of the total development expenditure. Road freight volume accounts for 98% of the country's total freight volume. The government has continuously increased investment since 2000, highway infrastructure has developed rapidly, and road maintenance and repair work has made progress. The railway has a total length of 1,300 kilometers and is mainly responsible for transporting large quantities of export commodities. In recent years, the government has repaired part of the railway to increase freight volume. The main domestic ports are Tema Port and Takoradi Port. Tema Port is the largest man-made seaport in Africa, with a throughput of 8.37 million tons. It is mainly used for importing materials. Takoradi Port is mainly used for exporting supplies. Ghana is also building a river port on Lake Volta and opening up an inland shipping network, but the port and shipping facilities are incomplete. Ghana Airways is a major airline with rapid development. It has formed alliances with airlines on the African continent and is expected to become the main channel for communication between Africa and other regions.
