The author of this book, Wu Jun, graduated from Tsinghua University with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree, and graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a doctorate. He is a well-known expert in the fields of artificial intelligence, speech recognition and Internet search. He worked in Google and Tencent successively, and also founded his own investment company. At the same time, he is also a writer and has many bestsellers, such as Top of the Tide, Intelligent Age and Light of Civilization.

In Wu Jun's life experience, he found that some people with similar starting points will continue to divide, thus widening the gap in life, and it is a person's attitude towards life that plays a decisive role. Therefore, Wu Jun wants to tell his two daughters that "attitude determines fate".

I summarized Wu Jun's 40 letters from home into the following five attitudes.

The first attitude-the attitude of being a man.

Regarding the attitude of being a man, Wu Jun gave three suggestions, that is, to be optimistic, to be a good person and to learn to resist temptation.

Let's start with an optimistic attitude. Wu Jun believes that an optimistic attitude towards life is more important than anything else. If a person is positive and optimistic, he will not be easily influenced by bad emotions such as resentment and jealousy, and he will look at people and things around him more philosophically, making it easier to get happiness and happiness.

Wu Jun believes that the second attitude of being a man is to be a good person. A person's character is more important than his ability. So what is a good man? Wu Jun believes that there are three standards: being educated, being friendly to others and caring about the world.

Wu Jun's third attitude in teaching young people to be human is to resist temptation.

People often face many temptations when they grow up. So how can we resist the temptation? We can start from two aspects:

First of all, we must have a long-term goal and work hard to achieve it.

Secondly, it is to do more things with a sense of accomplishment and reward. It is what can really improve your ability and make yourself stronger.

The second attitude-the attitude of learning. Wu Jun himself is a schoolmaster, and he has a lot of experience to teach young people the attitude of learning. To sum up, there are mainly four aspects:

The first one is down-to-earth study of all subjects, and the stupid step-by-step method is the best way. Only in this way can we lay a good foundation for learning. And those who blindly want to take shortcuts are prone to omissions and deficiencies in the learning process.

The second learning attitude is to cultivate one's logical thinking ability. For example, learn math well, or read more classic non-fiction classics.

The third attitude we should pay attention to in our study is the ability to think independently. Wu Jun's suggestion is to be a rational skeptic and learn to falsify. Besides, if you want to be a rational skeptic, you should be skeptical even in the face of science.

The fourth learning attitude is to broaden your horizons. Just don't limit your eyes to the profession.

The third attitude-the attitude of doing things.

When we decide whether to do something, the most important thing is to remember eight words: "The pattern should be big and the realm should be high."

The big picture is that when deciding what to do and what not to do, don't just think about how to create benefits for yourself, but think about creating benefits for more people with your own ability.

To have a higher level is to look at things in the long run, not just to consider the immediate small interests. Once people get used to short-term interests, the realm is not high.

In addition, don't over-calculate the probability of success before doing things, just do what you want, don't blindly pursue the best, but hold back. The best way is to start first and then optimize step by step.

I want to start, but I will face many difficulties in the process. Wu Jun believes that there are three attitudes to getting things done:

First, set the priority. In real life, it is often that the old work has not been completed, and new tasks have come again. At this time, it is very important to find the priority.

Second, take the initiative to do things. Taking the initiative to do things not only means that you take the initiative to finish the work without delay, but also has a deeper meaning, that is, you are required to take the initiative to communicate and optimize.

Third, we should strive to do things to the extreme. People often say that failure is the mother of success, but Wu Jun thinks that success is the mother of success. It is precisely because people have successful experiences that they will be more confident. So when we do things, we should go all out to do things to the extreme.

When one thing is finished, learn to treat setbacks and luck correctly.

Many people attribute their failure to bad luck and fate after setbacks, and then they are devastated and choose to escape. Wu Jun believes that there is such a thing as luck. Just like those who won the lottery, their good luck is self-evident. But more luck hides people's efforts.

The fourth attitude-the attitude of interpersonal communication.

First, don't be afraid of losing. Wu Jun believes that the most important thing in dealing with people is sincerity, and don't be afraid of suffering. After all, no one is perfect, so don't be harsh on others.

Second, learn to know people. How to know people in life?

First, it depends on a person's motivation to associate with you.

Second, to guard against villains, we must first give up our greed.

Third, we should also observe this person's life circle.

Third, learn to reject others. Interpersonal communication is a complicated matter. When someone asks you for help, the relationship between the other person and you and the difficulty of requesting things will make you have different considerations. But the most important thing is to have a sincere attitude, don't exaggerate your abilities, and don't go against your heart.

The fifth attitude-the attitude towards money. Wu Jun's attitude towards money can be summed up in two sentences: first, don't spend money indiscriminately, don't save money indiscriminately; Second, let Qian Shengqian and money play a greater role.

Young people must insist on making money before spending money. This order cannot be reversed. Wu Jun also hopes that young people can focus on the overall situation, proceed from their own needs and spend the money boldly.

When you have money, you should learn to use Qian Shengqian, that is, you should learn to invest. Wu Jun believes that all kinds of investment methods can be tried by young people. But be careful not to take too many risks, and don't blindly make investments that you don't understand.

Wu Jun also suggested that young people can invest one-third of their money in index funds, which is Buffett's advice to ordinary investors.

Finally, when you really earn a lot of money and realize financial freedom one day, you should learn to make money play a greater role. Wu Jun thinks that people should not be too thrifty. He hopes that young people can give back to the society when they have money and use their wealth to do things that others have not done or can't do.
