Looking back on my five-month experience in the United States now, all of this seems still vivid in my mind.

During these five months, I not only learned book knowledge, but also greatly improved my living ability, and I also fully understood the differences between Chinese and Western cultures.

Learning at school The classroom style in the United States is quite different from that in China. Since the teachers come from all over the world, there are also a lot of international students. Students of different skin colors gather together, creating an atmosphere that is lively yet rigorous.

Students can interrupt the teacher's lectures and ask questions at will in class. The questions can be described as diverse and have become a part of the American classroom landscape.

This reflects that they are thinking independently, learning proactively, and do not let go of any questions they do not understand.

For every question, the professors can explain it carefully and patiently.

It can be said that in the United States, learning is entirely dependent on oneself, and the professionalism of teachers is also admirable.

Another special thing is that each of their courses has a discussion class or experimental class.

The large class of more than 100 people is divided into several small discussion groups of 20 to 30 people. Students in a fixed time group discuss homework or some classroom issues under the leadership of a teaching assistant every week, and refresh their knowledge.

Through each discussion class, I was able to truly participate in the course and share and discuss my views on knowledge and some confusions with my classmates and teachers. In the process, my grasp of knowledge became more accurate.

At first, I was just an audience member and was hesitant to participate in the discussion. However, seeing the lively discussions among other students, I was a little eager to give it a try, hoping to join in and express my own opinions.

In the next few classes, I encouraged myself and bravely raised my doubts. Although I didn't speak fluently the first few times, I could still pierce the window paper.

Every time I finish speaking, the teaching assistant can encourage me, which also greatly boosts my confidence.

This is also one of my biggest gains from studying the course. In fact, during the discussion, all students were equal. They respected every speech made by everyone and answered my questions enthusiastically.

In the United States, each course is designed and taught by the professor himself, so the class format and assessment standards for each course are determined and implemented by the instructor. Therefore, each course is very unique.

However, among the three main campus courses I chose, one thing is the same, that is, the course assessment pays more attention to daily work, homework, experiments, and sometimes the performance of discussion classes is also recorded in the daily grades.

The teacher's class capacity is not as large as that in China, but there are many tasks that need to be completed after class, which requires extra efforts.

In fact, the proportion of the final exam is not large. In one course, the proportion of the midterm plus final score is only 40%.

What the exam tests more is the application of knowledge points, and there is not much content that needs to be memorized. Some courses even allow us to bring a "cheat sheet", that is, record the formulas and knowledge points on it.
