The aviation education in Xiamen University began in April 1944, and it is one of the earliest universities in China to offer aviation specialty. 195 1 the department of aeronautics and astronautics of Xiamen university was merged into the department of aeronautics and astronautics of Tsinghua University, 1952 merged with the departments of aeronautics and astronautics of other schools to form Beijing Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (now Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics). In the early days, the Department of Aviation of Xiamen University trained a group of elite talents in the aviation field, such as Zhang Qixian and Chen Yijian, academicians of China Academy of Engineering (part-time professors of our school), who were distributed in various universities, research institutes and government departments in the aerospace field in China, and played an important role in the development of China's aerospace industry.
1994 at the request of Xiamen municipal government, Xiamen University resumed aviation education to meet the needs of local economic construction. At present, the department of aviation holds a master's degree in aviation manufacturing engineering and a bachelor's degree in aircraft power engineering. Since 1994, Xiamen University has trained 2 10 undergraduate students and about 460 junior college students (aircraft maintenance engineering).
Most of the graduates work in domestic aviation enterprises and institutions, such as Xiamen Taikoo Aircraft Engineering Co., Ltd. (TAECO), Beijing Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Co., Ltd. (AMECO), Shanghai Science and Technology Aerospace Co., Ltd. (STARCO), Shanghai Boeing Aviation Modification Maintenance Engineering Co., Ltd., Zhuhai Motianyu Aviation Engine Maintenance Co., Ltd., Xiamen Airlines, Hainan Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Zhuzhou Southern Aviation Power Co., Ltd. and other large aviation enterprises. Some students work in overseas aviation enterprises (Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau). Other students continue to pursue graduate studies at universities at home and abroad. Employers speak highly of aviation graduates. Graduates are in short supply, and the employment rate has always been among the best in Xiamen University.
Xiamen University's aviation department has a strong team, with professional teachers graduated from aviation colleges at home and abroad, and most of them have doctoral degrees or are working. In recent years, professors, postdocs and doctors have been introduced from German Aerospace Center and universities such as Tsinghua, Beihang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics to enrich the teaching staff. Xiamen University was a subsidiary of Fujian Aviation Society and a member of China Civil Aviation Maintenance Association from August 2003 to June 5, 2008 to1October 5.
At present, the department of aeronautics has the key laboratory of plasma application research in Fujian Province. Teachers of the Department of Aviation actively carry out scientific research activities, and undertake various scientific research projects such as National Natural Science Foundation, Fujian Key Science and Technology Projects, Fujian Natural Science Foundation, aviation industry corporation of china Science and Technology Innovation Fund, Xiamen University Science and Technology Projects, and R&D entrusted by enterprises and institutions. These efforts have achieved remarkable results. The reconstruction of the aviation department has set up a new platform for aviation education and scientific research in Xiamen University. The development of the aviation sector has also ushered in new opportunities.
