Family and education
His father is a school inspector and his mother is a language teacher. After his father became the county governor, they often moved, and his father was strict with him since he was a child. His parents encouraged Nouvel to study math and languages. But when he was 16 years old, a teacher taught him to draw, and he was attracted by art from then on. He later said that his parents persuaded him to become an educator or engineer. Finally, after consulting with his parents, he decided to study architecture, which is a career without artistic danger in the eyes of his parents. 1966, Nouvel was transferred to Paris because he was not admitted to the Bordeaux Academy of Fine Arts. He entered the French National Academy of Fine Arts with the first place in the entrance examination and graduated from 1972.
occupation
When he first entered the Academy of Fine Arts, he dreamed of studying painting a year later, but this year's experience changed his mind. During the period of 1967- 1970, he worked as the assistant of architects Paul prey and Claude Parent, and was deeply influenced by them. Only one year after he started working, Paul prey appointed him as the project manager of a large apartment building, which was the beginning of his architectural career. 1970, he and Fran? ois Sarnell (Fran? Ois Seigneur) established his first architectural firm. With the support of the critic Georges Boudaille, he became one of the participating architects of the Paris Biennale from 197 1 and prepared the architecture Biennale from 1978.
Such as "March Movement" in 1976 (Music Movement? Mars 1976? ), a fighter of French architectural innovation, opposed the design of la Charte d 'athè nes, participated in the establishment of a construction union, and completely broke with L 'Ordre des Architects. 1975, he was one of the main organizers who opposed the international bidding for the renovation project of les Halles de Paris. 200 1 he led the world root island (l'? Le de Seguin) Reform Association opposes the destruction of Renault factory.
In Le Pé rigord (le comté, a county in southwest France), his first work was realized-a kindergarten in trélissac and a villa in Champcevinel. His first striking work was 1976 built in San Antonio. Since then, he has signed contracts with Val-Notre-Dame Medical Surgery Center in Besson (northeast of Paris) and le collège Anne-Frank in Antoine (south of Paris) with 1976 and 1978 respectively.
In 1980s, the French government built a series of major government projects. In Paris, there is an extension of the Louvre, the Bastille Opera House, the National Library and the German-French Arch. All these architectural schemes were obtained through competitions. In France, public buildings of almost any size have to obtain design schemes through competitions. This practice gives architects, especially young architects, a chance to create.
198 1 year, he designed L 'Institut du Monde Arabia (IMA)-Fran? The first large public building in the period of Mitterrand and francois mitterrand. Jean Nouvel decorated the exterior wall with Arabic window grilles, showing its Arabic characteristics. When this project was completed in 1987, Jean Nouvel became famous. In the same year, his work Nemausus Low-rent Housing (H.L.M) was also in Nimes (N? Mes) has been completed. He designed a glass dome for the Opera House in Lyon (1993) and a transparent office building for the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art in Paris (1994).
Lucerne Cultural and Conference Palace was completed in 1999, which enhanced his international reputation. A series of international projects followed: Dentsu Tower in Tokyo, National Art Center Museum in Madrid, Torre Agba in Barcelona and guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis.
Today, he has become a world-famous architect. Nouvel is good at using steel, glass and light to create novel architectural images and meet the requirements of the environment and context of the building base. He has his own unique understanding of architectural design and put it into practice. By studying his design ideas and techniques, we can get many useful inspirations.
