The annual Lawrence World Sports Award, which started in 2000, is the only global sports award ceremony, which rewards the world's most outstanding male and female athletes for their sports achievements in various fields. Lawrence, which means laurel wreath in Latin, also represents the person who accepts this wreath.

Many people call Lawrence the Oscar of sports. Lawrence World Sports Awards, first of all, six individuals or groups were nominated by sports journalists from 70 countries as candidates for each award, and then the winners were selected by the Lawrence World Sports Association by secret ballot. This is the only annual global sports award TV program with international and local roots. The program was broadcast live to more than 170 countries around the world, and was watched by more than 1 100 million people. In 2003, Lawrence's advertising revenue (print and TV advertising) exceeded 240 million euros.

Lawrence has its distinctive features, such as attaching great importance to the development of sports public welfare undertakings. From this perspective, Lawrence magnified the social function of sports, and its charitable nature became more and more obvious.
