N 1. Japanese Grade Examination is an international grade examination organized by Japan Foundation for International Exchange and Japan International Education Support Association. It is divided into five grades: N 1, N2, N3, N4 and N5, where N 1 is the highest grade and N5 is the lowest grade. Level 2 (N2): Candidates are required to study Japanese for about 600 hours, complete intermediate Japanese courses, master advanced grammar, have about 1000 Chinese characters and about 6,000 words, and have average listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. It is the basic requirement for applying for Japanese junior colleges, undergraduate courses and other disciplines. Level 1 (N 1): Candidates are required to study Japanese for about 900 hours, master advanced Japanese grammar, have about 2,000 Chinese characters and a vocabulary of 10000, which can meet the needs of social communication, university study and basic research. Therefore, the level of N 1 in Japan is higher than that of N2.
