"Sun Hung Kai" brand started at 1963 and was founded by Guo Desheng, Lee Shau Kee and Feng Jingxi. The word "new" is taken from Feng Jingxi's family business "New Jubilee Company", the word "Hong" stands for "Hongchanghang" which runs zipper and other businesses, and the word "base" is taken from the name.

After 1969, the three people started their own businesses and developed their strengths. Henderson land brand gradually gained a new name, while Guo and Feng founded their own Sun Hung Kai real estate brand. Guo devoted himself to real estate and made it into Sun Hung Kai Property, while Feng focused on the financial industry. However, the descendants of the Feng family did not intend to develop the financial industry. 1996, they sold the industry to the Li Mingzhi family of United Group, and it has been run by their family ever since.
