Maternity allowance is the living expenses given by professional women when they leave their jobs due to childbirth. Maternity allowance is generally applied by the unit to the relevant competent department within three months after birth. Maternity allowance is paid to the unit account first, and then to the individual by the unit, and cannot be changed to the individual account. However, different regions have different policies and regulations. In some areas, employees do it themselves, and the unit is not responsible. Therefore, the specific application should be consulted by the unit.

China's maternity allowance payment methods and payment standards are divided into two situations:

1. In areas where social pooling of maternity insurance is implemented, the payment standard shall be paid according to the average monthly salary of employees in the previous year, with a period of not less than 98 days;

2. In areas where social co-ordination of maternity insurance is not implemented, maternity allowance is paid by enterprises or units, and the standard is the basic salary and price subsidy for female employees before giving birth, and the period is generally 98 days.

Legal basis: Article 56 of the Social Insurance Law of People's Republic of China (PRC), employees can enjoy maternity allowance in accordance with state regulations under any of the following circumstances:

(1) Female employees enjoy maternity leave;

(2) Enjoy family planning operation leave;

(3) Other circumstances stipulated by laws and regulations.

Maternity allowance is calculated and paid according to the average monthly salary of employees in the previous year of the employer. Fifty-fourth employers have paid maternity insurance premiums, and their employees enjoy maternity insurance benefits; Unemployed spouses of employees enjoy maternity medical expenses in accordance with state regulations. The required funds are paid from the maternity insurance fund.

Maternity insurance benefits include maternity medical expenses and maternity allowance. Fifty-fifth maternity medical expenses include the following items:

(1) Maternity medical expenses;

(two) family planning medical expenses;

(3) Other project expenses stipulated by laws and regulations. Fifty-third employees should participate in maternity insurance, the employer should pay maternity insurance premiums in accordance with state regulations, and employees do not pay maternity insurance premiums.
