The critical illness insurance was issued by 1983 in South Africa. It was the surgeon Marius Barnard who first put forward the idea of this critical illness insurance product. His brother, Christine Barnard, was the first doctor in the world to successfully perform a heart transplant. Dr. Marius found that after heart transplantation, some patients and their families had financial difficulties and could not maintain the follow-up rehabilitation treatment. In order to reduce the financial pressure of the insured in case of serious illness or major surgery, he cooperated with an insurance company in South Africa to develop critical illness insurance.
After 1986, critical illness insurance was introduced to Britain, Canada, Australia, Southeast Asia and other countries and regions, and developed rapidly. From 65438 to 0995, critical illness insurance was introduced into the mainland market of China, and has now developed into an important guarantee product in the life insurance market. In the development process of critical illness insurance, the scope of protection is gradually expanded and the protection function is gradually improved, but the design concept of this kind of products has continued to this day.
