July 5(th), 2007
On July 5th, 2007, Camilla gave a speech on the naming of Lady Duke of Cornwall Osteoporosis Center.
I'm glad to be in truro today, and I'm sorry to postpone this activity twice. It seems that this third time is lucky. . .
The last time I visited the Osteoporosis Center of Royal Cornwall Hospital was nine years ago, when I was a sponsor of the National Osteoporosis Association. Now I am very happy to see the development here over the years.
Last time I visited here, I saw excellent medical services for patients and educational activities on bone and joint health care.
Understanding these problems is very important to help people understand osteoporosis and arthritis, and can help prevent and treat these painful, chronic and even fatal diseases.
I am also encouraged to see that young people have been able to visit this center for so many years. Regular exercise and healthy catering industry are very important for their future bone health.
Some of you know that I began to support osteoporosis because my mother and grandmother both died of this very desperate disease.
Only 14 years ago, osteoporosis was rarely discussed and diagnosed, and it was often considered as a common disease of elderly women. After that, the understanding and diagnosis of this disease have made great progress, but we still have a long way to go.
I want to thank the work of many osteoporosis centers, such as the work led by Professor Woolf here, which makes us see that the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer and closer.
I congratulate you on your great achievements, and hope that your future work will be successful and you can provide good services for people with osteoporosis in Cornwall and other parts of the world.
