Chipset is the core component of the motherboard. According to the different arrangement positions on the motherboard, it is usually divided into north bridge chip and south bridge chip.

Southbridge chip is mainly used for low-speed external bus devices, and is responsible for managing interrupts and DMA channels, so that external devices can work more smoothly. It supports KBC (Keyboard Controller), RTC (Real Time Clock Controller), USB (Universal Serial Bus), Ultra DMA EIDE data transmission mode and ACPI (Advanced Energy Management). Generally, the south bridge is located far away from the CPU on the motherboard and evenly away from the low-speed external interface.

Northbridge chip generally works according to the type and main frequency of CPU and the type and maximum capacity of memory, and provides high-speed external bus interfaces such as PCI/AGP. The north bridge is usually located near the CPU slot on the motherboard. Due to the high heat value of this chip, the radiator is generally installed on this chip.
