For interested candidates, many bosses will reply by email immediately after seeing the magnetic letter.

For interested postdoctoral applicants, I often reply within 2 minutes after reading the magnetic letter, "Our group has no funds to hire you as a postdoctoral fellow now, but if you want to be a visiting scholar for 3 months, I can still provide support."

There are no obvious loopholes in the content and English of the whole letter. But in fact, the effect is not good, because:

A) Most bosses will look at it first. What does this set of magnets have to do with me? You introduced yourself. I know you are very nice, but are you familiar with my laboratory? Do you know what I'm doing here? How can your skills and knowledge help my laboratory? There is nothing related to me in the whole article. Why should I take the time to read your attached resume? Delete it!

B) if you are a doctoral student, you can raise the training.

Opportunity, originally a doctor is a training process; But for postdocs, bosses generally want you to come at the drop of a hat. Besides, why does the boss need to pay you for help?

C) The last question is that from the boss's point of view, finding a postdoctoral fellow is actually a seller's market. There are often bosses next to excellent doctoral graduates begging to say, come to me as a postdoctoral fellow, and the boss with great energy may directly track down the tenure.
