With the help of WWF, the Wildlife Trade Investigation Committee has developed into a network group with 15 branches across five continents. It has played an important role in persuading the government to protect species and strengthen the control of wildlife trade.
The image of WWF as a non-governmental organization with which the government is willing to cooperate shows that its influence and strength in formulating and revising government policies are appropriate. WWF's friendly relations with governments enable it to carry out the "debt for nature" transaction. In this transaction, the debts of many countries are used as funds for nature conservation activities in that country. Many countries, including Ecuador, Philippines, Poland and Zambia, have carried out such "debt for nature" transactions.
1986, as part of the 25th anniversary of the organization, WWF invited the leaders of the world's five major religions to the Italian historic city of assisi for a two-day gathering. Later, religious leaders declared that nature conservation was the basic element of their respective beliefs. This has led to the establishment of an international protection network, through which WWF cooperates with religious groups to achieve the same goal.
WWF's work in China began with 1980, the protection of giant pandas and their habitats. It is the first international NGO invited by the China government to carry out protection work in China. From 65438 to 0996, WWF officially established its Beijing office, and since then, it has set up offices in eight cities across the country. So far, the project has expanded from panda protection to species protection, protection and sustainable utilization of fresh water and marine ecosystems, forest protection and sustainable management, sustainable development education, climate change and energy, wildlife trade, scientific development and international policy. Since the establishment of 1996 Beijing office, WWF has supported more than 100 major projects with a total investment of over 300 million yuan.
