Laoshe Literature Award is the literature prize with the highest gold content and award in China. It is a comprehensive literature and art award for the whole country, held once every three years, jointly organized by Lao She Literature and Art Foundation and Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles. Lao She Literature Award was established in May 1988. The literature awards include novel award, novella award, prose award, drama script award and youth drama literature award.
Laoshe Literature Award is the highest prize in Beijing literary and art circles, and it is also called the four major literary awards in China together with Mao Dun Literature Award, Lu Xun Literature Award and Cao Yu Drama Literature Award. The selection of Lao She's literary prize will fully implement the literary policy, encourage writers to establish a sense of quality products, pay attention to real life, embody the spirit of the times, and follow the direction of literature and art "serving the people and socialism" to create more outstanding literary works.
The Significance of Four Literary Awards
It is an indisputable fact that people in the world only look at the concrete form of things. The essence of literary works is intangible after all. Most people don't have much access to literature in their lives. With the help of awards, people can pay attention to this "form" and then get in touch with and understand literature.
It can be seen that the award has its specific significance, but it cannot cover all. The value of the prize varies from person to person, and it cannot be generalized. In other words, the evaluation of a creator is not an award, it is just a form of social or literary recognition. As Murakami said, it is more important to have good readers, especially those who buy books out of their own pockets.
