On February 10, 2020, the Li Ka-shing Foundation said that in the face of the COVID-19 epidemic, the Foundation donated HK$ 1 100 million to support Wuhan frontline medical care through the special disaster relief account of the Liaison Office. Originally, it was planned to distribute donations together with medical supplies, but there were challenges in raising and organizing the delivery of supplies, so it was decided to donate first and then replenish supplies.
This donation is by far the largest donation from Hong Kong to the Mainland. Li Ka-shing Foundation is a recognized charity in Hong Kong, which is mainly devoted to public welfare undertakings such as education, medical care and culture. Up to now, it has donated more than HK$ 20 billion to projects in 27 countries and regions around the world, of which 87% is used to support projects in Greater China.
Li Ka-shing once said at the Changhe performance meeting, "The foundation is my third son, and the weight of the foundation will never be less than one-third of my property one day." Thus, Li Ka-shing is very serious about charity, and his contribution to charity can be said to be indispensable.
