Hefei University of Technology was founded in 1945, then named Anhui Bengbu Industrial Vocational School. 1947 expanded and moved to Dongshan, Huainan, and changed its name several times. Moved to Hefei on 1956.

/kloc-0 was named Hefei university of technology in 1958, and/kloc-0 was approved as a national key university in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1960. After the merger and reorganization with Anhui Institute of Technology and Anhui Institute of Water Conservancy and Electric Power, it successively belonged to the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Machinery Industry, the Ministry of Mechanical and Electronic Industry and the Ministry of Education.
